Mardi Gras Galveston's Funky Uptown Umbrella Parade

Participating in Mardi Gras Galveston's Funky Uptown Umbrella Parade this year was such a fun and joyful experience!  The umbrella parade embodies what makes Mardi Gras Galveston such a beloved celebration — a blend of tradition, community creativity, and celebration of spectacle. This event, one of more than 20 parades across two weekends and Fat Tuesday, offers both locals and visitors a chance to participate rather than simply watch.  Decorating an umbrella is a chance to bring your own flair to the Mardi Gras festivities. Some families plan weeks ahead, crafting dazzling themes; others improvise at the last minute with beads and paint. The result is a mesmerizing mosaic of personalities parading throughout historic downtown under the gulf moonlight.
